Profesor Titular de Ecología de los Medios y Transformación Social en la Escuela de Periodismo, Medios y Cultura (JOMEC) de la Universidad de Cardiff, Reino Unido. Es un autor ampliamente citado en activismo digital, movimientos sociales y estudios de datos críticos con un enfoque especial en el Sur Global. Entre 2011 y 2016, fue Profesor Titular en la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, México. Emiliano es miembro del Data Justice Lab y Co-PI del proyecto “Towards Democratic Auditing: Civic Participation in the Scoring Society” financiado por Open Society Foundations. Ha publicado más de 50 publicaciones en 5 idiomas en revistas y libros. Su último libro, Hybrid Media Activism (Routledge, 2019) ganó el Outstanding Book Award del Grupo ‘Activism, Communication and Social Justice’ de la International Communication Association (ICA). Sus publicaciones incluyen el libro colectivo Citizen Media and Practice (Routledge, 2019) y 6 monográficos coeditados. Emiliano es cofundador de la Iniciativa ‘Big Data Sur’, co-editor del blog multilingüe ‘Covid-19 from the margins’ y vicepresidente de la sección ‘Comunicación y Democracia’ de la European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). Emiliano codirects the ‘Data Justice’ Book Series published by SAGE. His work has informed the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation and he is frequently invited to keynote on the challenges, the implications and the myths of the datafied society.
